CIS of Nevada’s Day at the Legislature: A Huge Success!

Our second Day at the Legislature was held on March 17, 2025, and was an unforgettable experience! More than 130 students, alumni, board members, and team members from across Nevada—representing Elko, Spring Creek, West Wendover, Reno/Sparks, Winnemucca, and Las Vegas—traveled to Carson City to engage with the state legislative process and share their personal stories about how Communities In Schools (CIS) of Nevada has changed their lives.

We are incredibly proud to advocate for the Keeping Kids in School Act (SB135), a critical bill that ensures continued funding for our vital services statewide. The opportunity to meet with legislators and discuss the importance of CIS Nevada’s work was both inspiring and empowering for our students, reinforcing their voices in shaping the future of education in our state.

A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to connect with our students and learn more about our mission. Special appreciation goes to Isabel Graf in the Governor’s office, Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro, Speaker Steve Yeager, Assembly Majority Leader Sandra Jauregui, Senator Edgar Flores, CIS Board Chair Ray Specht, Vice Chair Punam Mathur, and so many others who made this experience truly impactful.

This event was a powerful reminder that when we come together as one team, one state, we can make a lasting difference for Nevada’s students. Thank you for supporting our mission to break down barriers to success and keep kids in school!
