Ribbon cuttings were held across all grade levels in Las Vegas, Reno, and West Wendover in celebration of the CIS of Nevada expansion. At Communities In Schools of Nevada, our mantra is “All in for Kids.” And this school year, we’re bringing a whole new meaning to that expression by rapidly scaling our evidence-based program across the state as our schools, students, and families recover from the pandemic. To celebrate that expansion and the meaningful support that means for our kids, we held three ribbon cuttings yesterday, September 15, in Las Vegas, Reno and West Wendover at Von Tobel Middle School, Bernice Mathews Elementary School and West Wendover High School, respectively.
These three ribbon cuttings represent our broader growth statewide with the addition of 13 new schools to the CIS family in the 2022-23 school year. Communities In Schools and our over 100 site coordinators are now serving more than 90,000 students in 91 schools statewide. Our guiding vision is that one day every child will have access to a caring adult on their school campuses with the wraparound services they need to succeed.
Our ability to grow our reach and deepen our impact is fueled by a significant infusion of federal relief funds, the largest one-time gift in our history from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, which we announced earlier this year, and the ongoing support and generosity of our longtime donors. Thank you to all who have joined in our efforts to surround students with a community of support.
Our new partnerships will allow us to provide wraparound services to students by placing at least one full-time caring and dedicated professional — whom we call “site coordinators” — inside schools to remove barriers to student learning and their journey to graduation. This growth is proof that positive change and impact are possible when we work together to uplift our students and encourage them to stay in school.
