On Saturday, April 11, Southern Nevada families, educators and students had the chance to attend the Forum For Our Future, a town hall devoted to letting educators and students speak on Governor Sandoval’s Education Initiatives.
CIS Site Coordinators from Rancho and Valley High Schools and students from those schools as well as Canyon Springs High School, turned out to speak as well as show Nevada legislators how invested they are in the impact that the initiatives could have on their education as well as their friends and families.
Legislators present included Senators Moises Denis, (whose district includes Valley and Rancho) and Councilwoman Olivia Diaz and Councilman Isaac Barron.
CIS senior, Dilcea Duarte from Rancho, spoke about being an English Language Learner student and how beneficial the CIS programs at her school were for her. Raven Weatherly from Valley spoke about how CIS programs helped her stay on track to graduate and how she has been accepted at UNLV, despite the challenges of coming from a low-income background.
Former CIS student and current UNLV freshman, Jessica Suarez, also showed up and spoke about the support she received from CIS programs during high school
