Communities In Schools of Nevada (CIS), part of the nation’s leading evidence-based stay-in-school organization, has received a $225,000 donation from Health Plan of Nevada (HPN), a UnitedHealthcare company. The donation will be used to expand and sustain the nonprofit’s Integrated Student Supports, otherwise known as wraparound services in CIS’ new and existing schools in Clark and Washoe County School Districts. CIS is currently in 80 K-12 schools in Clark County, supporting over 75,000 students and in 13 K-12 schools in Washoe County, supporting 9,000 students.

CIS’ Integrated Student Supports is the nonprofit’s school-based holistic approach to promoting academic success and the model on which CIS was built and founded more than 40 years ago. The model is also the only evidence-based intervention for wraparound services currently approved by the Nevada Department of Education.

Wraparound services may include eyeglasses, dental care, health care and professional counseling, food, school supplies, clothing and even housing. CIS identifies student needs and finds a way to address them, closing the gaps they experience in their everyday lives. CIS’ long-term vision is for every child enrolled in a Title I or high-needs school to have access to a CIS site coordinator and wraparound services.
